GEORGE DREWETTServed inHMS Aldenham HMS Brocklesby Was on many Malta conveys with Tetcott George has kindly presented us with a copy of the book ‘The Last Destroyer’ by F A Mason JOHN MORTONServed inHMS Croome (August 1942 – March 1944) John remembers vividly the occasion when U-372 was sunk - Croome and Tetcott had taken over the attack from Sikh and Zulu who had expended their depth charges.
RICHARD ‘DICK’ SPRAGGSServed in HMS Belvoir(June 1942 – December 1943) Dick joined the New Zealand Navy in late 1941 and was lent to the Royal Navy in January 1942. He was ‘adopted’ by Tetcott veterans at the reunions of the 1st Destroyer Flotilla Association.
W G ‘GEORGE’ STUARTServed inHMS Brocklesby George belongs to our local branch of the Royal Naval Association in Bude EDWARD J WARRENEdward took passage along with 5 other ‘Sparks’ on Tetcott for the 6 week voyage from the Clyde to Simonstown – all sharing the wireless cabin. Edward says he was sick for the first 3 days!PHIL WILCOXIn August 1940, aged 17, Phil joined the Merchant Navy.His first ship was ‘Highland Monarch’. He was serving in SS Ocean Vintage when it was torpedoed at the entrance to the Persian Gulf. After a couple of days, Tetcott arrived to transport the survivors to Aden - Phil says the crew looked after them very well Phil joined the Royal Navy in May 1943 and served in HM S/M Supreme in the Far East. |
